NAMI McHenry County

Who We Are, Where We've Been

Established in 1988, NAMI-MC is a clear and independent voice, promoting quality care, affordable housing alternatives, health care for all persons with mental illness, increased funding for services and research, and public education to end the stigma and discrimination against mental illness.

NAMI-MC is a part of an extended network working on the local, state and national levels. This network has been, and continues to be the driving force in the postive changes that have occurred since the national organization began in 1979.

Today NAMI has more than 1,200 state and local affiliates in all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. Started by oly a handful of families who wanted to help each other, NAMI has proved that ordinary people who share the stregth, conviction and hope, can truly have a powerful impact on positive change.
